Abstract
PURPOSE: In the elimination of ammonia and hydrogen sulfide from coal gas, the coal gas is brought into contact with a catalyst containing at least iron oxide in the first reaction zone to remove almost the hydrogen sulfide, the resulting coal gas is contacted with another catalyst containing at least reduced iron in the second reaction zone to decompose the ammonia and finally the coal gas is contacted with a catalyst containing at least iron oxide in the third reaction zone at a lower temperature than the first reaction zone to remove the remaining hydrogen sulfide, thereby purifying coal gas.
