PURPOSE:To enable each slave station to use a transmission line impartially by making it possible to start polling operation from any slave station series-connected in a loop. CONSTITUTION:While the master station is communicating with one of slave stations connected in series, its discrimination number is held by slave-station number register 106 via transmission line 3-n. For the purpose of polling after the communication, an instruction word instructing the transmission of a polling word is sent out from instruction-word register 107 under the control of control circuit 101. On receiving the instruction word from series transmission line (i) at the input side, the slave station equivalent to the number reads out the polling word from register 205 and sends out it to output-side transmission line (0), and the following slave station confirms that polling is in process and obtain the right of using the transmission line by priority, so that when any slave station makes a request to use against the master station, the master station will connect to the slave station via the transmission line.
