Abstract

PURPOSE: A composite film having improved barrier to oxygen and moisture vapor, and mechanical strength, and capable of bearing retort treatment, consisting of a plastic film with a specific thickness.
CONSTITUTION: A thermoplastic film, e.g., a polyester film, or a polyamide film, having a thickness of 3μW1mm, is coated with polyvinylidene chloride to form a coated layer of not less than 8μ, preferably not less than 12μ. This film is then either calendered in the longitudinal direction at a draw ratio of not less than 1.05:1 at 80W150°C under a linear pressure of not less than 1 t/cm2 or oriented in the longitudinal and/or the crosswise direction. A tensile test is carried out by using test pieces with sample length of 50mm and 50mm wide at 20°C, a relative humidity of not more than 65%, and at a rate of pulling of not more than 100%/minute. A ratio of total haze at 10% elongation H to that of before elongation H0(H/H0) is made not less than 1:1.
