Abstract

PURPOSE: To restrict the oxidation of the powder surface, and to manufacture the titled product containing reduced amount of oxides at high yield, by applying the forced stirring type wet ball mill method to crush the coarse metallic powder of Ti, Si, Zr, etc., after adding it a specified amount of such vinyl compound as acrylonitrile, etc.
CONSTITUTION: The coarse metallic powder of Ti, Si, Zr, B, Fe, etc., is added with 0.1W100%, preferably 3W70%, vinyl compound [for instance, acrylonitrile, (meth) acrylic ester]. Next, such solvent as toluene, etc., is added to above mixture, which is then wet crushed by the forced stirring type wet ball mill method. According to this method, the ultrafine metallic powder stable against air, etc., can be manufactured. This product is utilized as the raw material for manufacturing the metal carbide fiber and the metal carbide ultrafine powder, the surface coating material for giving the electric conductivity, thermal conductivity, radiation absorbency, etc., to the surface of mouldings, the filler for plastics, the raw material for forming the sintered body, etc.
