Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain high-precision roundness for each hole simultaneously processed, by making different the phase angles of the cutters fitted to neighboring boring shafts and thereby dispersing the directions of cutting force.
CONSTITUTION: Rought cutter 4 and finishing cutter 5 are fitted into grooves 21 and 22 at the end of each boring shaft 3 and are fastened with screws. Both cutters are placed at both ends of a diameter of shaft 3. In the case where six shafts are used simultaneously, the phase angles of rough cutters 4 of shafts 3a, which are placed alternately with shafts 3b, are set equal, and the phase angles of cutters 4 of shafts 3b are advanced by about 90° from those of shafts 3a. Thus, the cutting force of cutters 4 and 5 of shaft 3, which rotates in synchronism, is dispersed and a hole of hihg-precision roundness is bored.
