Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a steering system for ship, in which critical value of actual steering angle obtained from a steering angle detector is used to reduce the steering quantity drastically, whereby it is enabled to save energy consumption of the ship.
CONSTITUTION: Course signal from gyro 1 and required course value from course setting means 2 are converted respectively in signal input unit 4 and afforded to control unit 6. In the control unit 6, course error is detected and compared with constant K preset in the unit 6. In case that the course error becomes smaller than constant K, actual steering signals obtained from steering angle detector 3 are sampled at intervals sufficiently small as compared with the steering speed and intermittent signals thus obtained are afforded to the control unit 6 via signal input unit 4. By multiplying the steering angle thus calculated by the inverse number of the average value of critical values of the steering angle, it is enabled to reduce the error of actual steering angle within 1 degree on an average at the time of sailing the ship with its course being fixed in a certain direction.
