Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve safety, operating characteristic and reliability by slewing and turning up or down the ultrasonic transducer in a holding pipe which moves vertically by passing through the central part of the external furnace core upper mechanism and making use of the inside wall of an atomic reactor.
CONSTITUTION: A holding tipe 2 which passes through the central part of the external core upper mechanism 15 of an atomic reactor is moved vertically along the guide pipe 7 fixed to a rotary plug 18 by a motor 38 and is turned with the central axis as an axis by a motor 34. The ultrasonic transducer 3 provided to this pipe 2 is turned up or down by the links 40, 39 coupling to the operating bar 22 which is moved vertically by a screw 24 turned by a motor 28. This constitution causes the transducer 3 to be moved in the vertical directions as well as to be turned up and down and slewed by the motors which are controlled according to external operations, by which ultrasonic waves are reflected on the furnace wall of an atomic reactor vessel 14 without providing any reflecting plate, thus the flow detection of fuel rods, control rods, etc. is accomplished with safety and high reliability through simple operation.
