Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain an excellent SN ratio, by eliminating reflected eachoes in a metallic wedge for skew angle flaw detection causing noises by joining a sound absorbing machine to a surface being subject to reflected echoes from a base of said wedge.
CONSTITUTION: Metallic sound absorbing materials 2, which are constituted with materials similar to or of the same kind as a metallic wedge 1 and to which solid minute particles are uniformly addition dispersed, and joined to the wedge 1 by means of welding, etc., and housed in a cooling box 10 for water-cooling, and a trembler 4 is mounted to one end of the wedge 1. Ultrasonic-wave beams 7 oscillated from the trembler 4 are projected into materials 6 to be tested through a contact medium 5, but a SN ratio remarkably improves becuase reflected echoes 8 from a base of the wedge are guided into the sound absorbing materials 2 at that time, are dispersion absorbed by solid minute particles, approximately become extinct and hardly return to the trembler 4 again.
