Abstract

PURPOSE: To achieve the improvement in the reliability of the electromagnetic flowmeter by so disposing electrodes that variations in the flow rate in a pipeline act evenly upon respectively pairing electrodes.
CONSTITUTION: Two pairs of electrodes P1, N1, P2, N2 forming the electromagnetic flowmeter are mounted to a pipeline in which liquid sodium for cooling flows. The electrodes P1 and N2 are disposed within the same plane rectangular to the pipeline 5 and the electrodes P2 and N1 are disposed within the other plane rectangular to the pipeline 5. Such electrode disposition results in the simultaneous and even action of the fluctuations of flow produced in the pipeline 5 upon the respectively pairing positive and negative electrodes P1, N1 and P2, N2, hence the potential differences E1(t) and E2(t) of the respective electrode pairs change nearly perfectly synchronously and the mutual levels coincide nearly perfectly. Hence, the output signals of the same levels may be obtained from two pairs of the electrodes and the reliability of the flowmeter may be improved because the potential differences do not receive the effect of the speed fluctuations of fluid.
