Abstract
PURPOSE:To achieve miniaturization of the optical branching filter by making use of the total reflection of a prism which uses materials of different refractive indices depending upon the wavelengths of light. CONSTITUTION:Lights f1, f2 from a light source 1 are passed through a micro- lens 3 through an optical fiber 2a and are radiated to a prism 6 which has respectively different refractive indices for the frequencies f1, f2 of the light. This light is made parallel rays 4 by the lens 3 and the parallel rays arrive at the face 7 of the prism 6. Here, if the angle 8 of the face 7 and rays 4 is suitably selected, the greater portion of the light of the frequency f1 refracts on the face 7 and enters the optical fiber 2b, The light of the frequency f2 is totally reflected by the face 7, is condensed by the lens 3 and enters the optical fiber 2c. In this way, the branching filter which is capable of separating the light of different frequencies f1, f 2, is obtained integratedly in small size.
