Abstract

CONSTITUTION: A di-higher alkyl ester of dicarboxylic acid is prepared by the reaction of a di-lower alkyl ester of dicarboxylic acid with a 4W14C saturated aliphatic monohydric alcohol in the presence of an acid catalyst such as p-toluenesulfonic acid, and water, at 100W150°C. The concentration of water in the reaction mixture is kept between 0.02 and 1.0 wt%, pref. 0.04 and 0.5 wt% by adding water intermittently with regular intervals or continuously to the system. The formed alcohol is removed from the reaction system continuously under normal or reduced pressure.
