Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain improved cooling power, higher responsibility, smaller size, greater loading capacity and lower cost to thrust bearings by equipping several cooling oil grooves at the back of metal surfaces receiving thrust load.
CONSTITUTION: The lubricant L forcedly supplied enters the sliding surfaces through a oily groove 26 as shown by the arrow mark, forms wedge type oily film to support shroust load, moreover remaining part of the lubricant flows into cooling oily grooves 25a, 25b and colls a thrust pad 22 at the back. Thus. the cooling effect of the thrust pad 22 can be improved without hurting formation of the oily film, a great increase of temperature in the thrust bearing be prevented and the reliability thereof be improved. It is not necessary to turn the bearing size larger in order to decrease the temperature of bearings or to increase supplying pressure of lubricant. Greater capacity can be accomplished by smaller size.
