Abstract

PURPOSE:To recover only the normal toner by impressing the voltage of the same polarity as the developing agent upon recovery means, which is made receptive of the developing agent flowing out of the photosensitive element, so that the toner having its polarity reversed is discharged before it is conveyed to a developing unit. CONSTITUTION:Recovering troughs 12 are arranged just below the cleaning units at the both sides of a photosensitive drum 1 so that the remainder of the developing liquid and the cleaning liquid flowing out of the element are received and recovered into a developing unit 5. The recovering troughs 12 and supplied with a voltage of the same polarity as that of the toner from a power source 13. Most of the toner, which is left on the surface of the photosensitive element without being transferred, is negative, whereas a portion thereof is positive because its polarity is reversed by the positive charge at the transfer unit. The residual toner is scraped away from the developing unit 5 by means of a cleaning blade 11 so that it flows into the recovery troughs 11 which are supplied with the same or negative polarity as the toner. And, the toner having its polarity partially reversed to have a positive polarity is attracted to the troughs 12 and trapped on their inner walls so that only the normal toner having the negative polarity is recovered.
