Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a high-quality plasma arc build-up welding of reduced penetration in base material, main and special subbuild-up materials are fed into a plasma arc of reversal porarity.
CONSTITUTION: Plasma arc 3 is generated between a material 2 to be welded and a torch 1 for reverse porality plasma arc build-up welding. Main build-up material 7 is fed into the plasma 3 from the back side of the arrowed weld process direction. Sub-build-up material 10 is self-fluxing and has a melting point lower than that of the main material 7. Such submaterial 10 is fed from the fore side of the arc 3. Then, oxide layer 4 is removed by cathodic clean action, cleaning zone 5 is formed by melted submaterial 10, the main material 7 producing sweat zone 6 of droplet 11. Such sweat zone 6 is covered by boundary layer 8 of about 10 thickness, on which build-up layer 9 is formed to complete welding. The process thus drastically reduces build-up penetration in the base material, providing high quality welding zone.
