Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a submarine cable burying machine capable of excavating the sea bed over a wide nature of the soil by providing a rotary cutter, which is composed by fixing a screw blade to the rotary shaft, to the machine to dig the ditch in which the cable introduced from the cable laying ship is to be buried.
CONSTITUTION: The excavating unit, which is provided with the rotary cutter 1 formed by fixing the screw-shaped blade to the rotary shaft, and the cable introduction unit, which introduces the cable 8 drawn out from the ship, are fixed to the torsion bar 13 which is mounted on the cable burying machine proper towed by the ship and is freely rotatable. The torsion bar 13 is turned by the driving gear 3, the excavating unit is pressed against the sea bed by torsional force of the torsion bar. By this way, the machine can excavate the sea bed over a wide nature from soft to hard soils to bury the cable.
