Abstract
PURPOSE: To provide an electrochemichromic image display device with a remarkably improved driving operation life by adding an anion of a specific cpd., in an electrically responding coloring and decoloring medium, which is an electrochemically inert anion.
CONSTITUTION: Working electrode 1 and opposite electrode 2 are placed in cell 3 made of glass or the like, and the electrodes are connected to power source part 4 with leads 5, 6. Cell 3 is filled with electrically responding coloring and decoloring medium 7 contg. an anion of a cpd. represented by the formula in a molar concn. of 1×10-5W1, esp. 0.02W0.3 M. A cpd. of the formula, e.g. contains CH3-O-CH2, CH3-O-CH2 and Cl- as R-O-(CH2)m, R'-O-(CH2)m,- and X in the formula, respectively. Other constituents of medium 7 include an electrolyte such as LiCl and water or the like as a solvent. When medium 7 is filled in cell 3, it is desirable to regulate the dissolved O2 concn. in medium 7 to below 5 ppm.
