PURPOSE:To make a VTR magnetic tape suitable for the simultaneous recording operations of different recording wavelengthes by sandwitching an application type magnetic layer in the form of a band between a substrate and a ferromagnetic metal thin film. CONSTITUTION:A substrate 1 of a high molecular molding or non-magnetic metal is formed partially with the so-called application type magnetic layer 2, which has the ferromagnetic particles such as r-Fe2O3 and CrO2 are dispersed in an organic substance, in the form of a band. There is further formed thereon the ferromagnetic metal such as Co, Fe or Ni or their alloy as a thin film 3 of the ferromagnetic metal by the vacuum evaporation or the plating process. In case the magnetic recording medium thus prepared is used as the VTR magnetic tape, a portion A is used mainly for recording of the shorter wavelength such as video signals whereas a portion B is used mainly for the recording of the longer wavelength such as audio signals. Thus, sufficient saturated outputs can be obtained for the both so that the recording density can be improved.
