Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent breaking of a wire due to corrosion cracking by stranding in a corrosion cracking detection copper strands which are more liable to stress corrosion cracking than other copper strands.
CONSTITUTION: Stress corrosion cracking detection copper strands 2 consist of copper wires which are added with several times larger amounts of impurities (e. g. Pb, Sn) than normal copper strands. The strands 2 are more liable to stress corrosion cracking than other copper strands 1 by a factor of about 1.5 to 3. As a result, a crack occurs in the detection copper strands 2 before stress corrosion cracking occurs in the copper strands 1 so that the crack can be detected beforehand, countermeasures can be taken, and the breaking of the wire can be prevented.
