Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the clogging of a catalyst feed pipe, by feeding a catalyst suspension for polymerizing propylene from the inner pipe of a double-pipe nozzle connected to a polymerizer and cooled liquid propylene from the outer pipe.
CONSTITUTION: A catalyst suspension (A) wherein a catalyst component consisting of TiCl3 and an organoaluminum compound is suspended in an inert organic solvent, e.g. a saturated hydrocarbon, or a suspension prepared by preliminarily polymerizing a lower α-olefin with (A) at a rate of 1W300 g/g-TiCl3 is fed from the inner pipe 2 of the double-pipe nozzle; liquid propylene cooled at +10W-50°C, from the outer pipe 1 at a velocity higher than A. The suspension (A) is sealed by the cooled propylene, and the cooled suspension permits some induction period in the polymerizer without causing rapid bulk polymerization and disperses well. Polymer is not formed on the wall or tip of the feed pipe.
