Abstract
PURPOSE: To economically produce polyethylene, by using a specified solid carrier in the ethylene polymerization using a catalyst prepared by combining a transition metal compound supported or a solid carrier with an organometallic compound.
CONSTITUTION: There is used a solid carrier prepared by copulverizing (i) a magnesium halide, e.g., magnesium chloride, (ii) an organic halide compound, e.g., methylene chloride, and (iii) an organic carboxylic acid (derivative), e.g., benzoic acid (anhydride) at about 0W200°C for about 0.5W30hr. That is, the solid carrier obtained is allowed to carry one or both of a titanium compound and a vanadium compound, e.g., TiCl4, to produce a solid catalyst component. Then, ethylene is polymerized by use of a catalyst obtained by combining the solid catalyst with an organometallic compound, e.g., triethylaluminum.
