Abstract

PURPOSE: To make possible good detection of air to fuel ratios without depending upon operating temperatures and aging by controlling the bias current of an air-to-fuel ratio sensor, comparing the terminal voltage of the sensor and the reference voltage determined from the air-to-fuel ratio and outputting the air-to-fuel ratio detecting signal from a comparator.
CONSTITUTION: An air-to-fuel ratio sensor 20 is supplied with bias current Ib via resistance 40, Tr 45 and its terminal voltage Vt is amplified to A times by a buffer amplifier 33 and is then inputted to the OP amplifier 36 of an integrator. A reference voltage Vs is also inputted to the amplifier 36. The integrator integrates the output voltage AVt of the amplifier 33, i.e., compares the same with the reference voltage Vs and the integrated voltage Vi is so controlled as to become Vs. A control circuit 21 supplies the current Ib proportional to the voltage Vi of the integrator and the mean value of its terminal voltage Vt is controlled irrespective of the overall fluctuations of the electric resistance of the sensor 20 owing to operating temperatures or aging. Hence, the air-to-fuel ratio detection is well accomplished despite any change in the electric resistance value characteristics of the sensor 20 owing to its operating temperatures and aging.
