Abstract

PURPOSE: To detect a relative displacement between the fuel assembly top head and the guide tube in a manner of simple constitution, by providing a plurality of non- contact type detection elements, for detecting a distance between the gripper and the gripper guide tube, on the same circumference of the gripper.
CONSTITUTION: With a gripper 5, within a gripper guide tube 8 of the fuel replacer, moving downward toward a core 2, when a point end 5a of the gripper 5 is inserted into and reached to the top handling head 9a of a fuel assembly 9 installed to the core 2, an eccentricity between the gripper guide tube 8 and the fuel assembly 9 is detected by an inclination between each of axes of the gripper 5 and the guide tube 8. For detecting said inclination, a plurality of non-contact type position detection elements 10 are provided on the same circumference of the gripper 5, with a distance detected between each element 10 and the guide tube 8. In case of using an electromagnetic induction type detector for the detection element 10, a facing part 14 of the guide tube 8 must be constructed by a magnetic unit.
