Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare the title composition having uniform quality, economically, by mixing asbestos and a phenolic resin, moistening the mixture with a solvent which is not a good solvent of the phenolic resin, and extruding and pelletizing the composition.
CONSTITUTION: A novolak-type phenolic resin powder is mixed with asbestos fiber of class 2W7 in a mixing chamber 4, and sprayed with a solvent through spray nozzles 6 to attain the optimum plasticity (non-sticky state). The composition is transferred through an adjustable orifith 7 to a granulating chamber 9, where it is pressed between a pair of rollers 11 rotating around a fixed axis 10, and a rotary disc die 12 having a number of orifiths 12a and supporting the above rollers 11. The compositin extruded through sail orifiths 12a is cut to a proper length with a knife cutter 14 to obtain the molding resin pelets. The above solvent is water or 6W9C aliphatic liqud compound, and its amount is between (20-X) and (70-X) wt% based on the resin wherein X is the content of the resin.
