Abstract
PURPOSE: A melt-formable modified polyvinyl alcohol and an inorganic filler are mixed and sintered to give porous sintered material having hydrophilic, oil-resisting, solvent-resisting properties and high strength, thus being used as filter for food, gasoline strainer.
CONSTITUTION: A modified polyvinyl alcohol that is prepared by copolymerizing with unsaturated compounds with long chains as propylene, α-butene or α-octene or unsaturated sulfonic acid as ethylenesulfonic acid or allylsulfonic acid and has more than 5°C half-value width of the melting peak in differential thermal analysis and an inorganic filler as fiberglass and asbestos are mixed at a ratio of 100W 40wt% of the former to 0W60wt% of the latter. The mixture is extruded into pellets to form granules of which at least 80wt% ranges from 6 to 250mesh. The granules are filled in a previously heated mold and heated under compression to a temperature at which the granules melt only on the surface, thus producing the objective sintered material of 25W95% porosity.
