Abstract

PURPOSE: To form uniform fine scratches in high polishing efficiency thereby to produce a substrate having an excellent directivity of liquid crystal by polishing the glass substrate of a liquid crystal display element with the use of plishing paper cloth which has such fibers on the surface thereon as are at a right angle with respect thereto.
CONSTITUTION: Fibers 4 made of cotton, plastics or glass are fixed at a right angle to a tape or sheet 3 made of paper, clock or plastics thereby to produce polishing paper cloth. This is used to polish the glass substrate of a liquid crystal element in one direction. It is preferred that the aforementioned fibers be made to have a thickness of about 0.02 to 0.2 mm and a length of about 5 to 6 mm.
