Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent an accident due to contact of a runner with a fixed seal of a water-turbine and a pumping water-turbine by constituting same such that high temperature water caused by agitation loss around the outer periphery of the runner is introduced into a water passage of a jacket so as to cause the jacket to be thermally expanded to thereby ensure the seal gap.
CONSTITUTION: Upon starting of a pumping water-turbine for its pumping up operation, water leaking from a guide vane 5 of which water the temperature is raised high due to agitation by a runner 2 is, partially or totally, discharged into a water passage 10 of a jacket 9 from an exhaust port 8a through a leaking water exhaust pipe 8 on the upperstream side. The water flows annularly within the water passage 10 and is then discharged into a suction pipe 11 through a leaking water discharge pipe 14 on the downstream side. The jacket 9 is heated by heat energy of the high-temperature water so that it is expanded and deformed in a direction to increase the seal gap g, thereby ensuring the seal gap at any time whereby an accident due to contact of the seal section of runner 2 is prevented.
