Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a semipermeable membrane with superior substance separability, mechanical properties and stability which membrane consists of a copolymer of methyl methacrylate and a hydrophilic vinyl monomer, and of isotactic polymethyl methacrylate in a specific ratio.
CONSTITUTION: The hydrophilic vinyl monomer is a monomer providing a hydrophilic homopolymer the equilibrium water content of which is above 2.5% in water of 20°C, and the monomer includes acrylamide, methacrylamide or N-vinylpyrolidone. 10W90% of a copolymer consisting of 99.8W75 mol% of methyl methacrylate and 0.2W25 mol% of the above monomer, and 90W10% of isotactic polymethyl methacrylate are dissolved in a water-replaceable org. solvent such as acetone or DMF to form a membraneous substance, which is then solidified with water optionally mixed with the above solvent to produce a semipermeable membrane.
