Abstract
PURPOSE:To cancel the spread at the top portion, and to improve the yield, in case of the reverse rolling of steel ingot, by placing on top the high temperature layer of steel ingot, by carrying out the rolling work at a ratio of distribution of total rolling reduction into forward and reverse passes determined according to a special method. CONSTITUTION:The high temperature side of the steel ingot 4 to be rolled is placed on top, and the steel ingot 4 is directed upward by an angle alpha, and is bitten into rolls 5, 6; meantime, the expective amount of spread S2 for the reverse pass is obtained (from the graph made by practical measurement) according to the temperature difference between the upper layer and the lower layer divided at an imaginary plane perpendicular to the reducing direction of the steel ingot 4; on the other hand, the ratio of distribution of total rolling reduction (into the forward pass and the reverse pass) is obtained from the relation between the initial feed angle alpha of the steel ingot 4 and the expective spread S1 for the forward pass (from the practical measurement stated separately). The spread S1 and S2 are canceled by carrying out the rolling depending on the ratio of distribution of total rolling reduction into forward pass and reverse pass, determined so as to make S1 = S2; and the defects 2 in the material is reduced, so that the yield is improved.
