Abstract

PURPOSE: To minimize the fluctuation of breadth and to make possible the energy saving, at rolling of the hot strip, by treating the material to be rolled thicker than 30mm, through plural units of edging mills installed in the group of finishing mills.
CONSTITUTION: The thickness of the material to be rolled, at the early stage of the group of finishing mills (F1WF7), (28W30 mm in the conventional method), is made above 30mm (preferable to be 40W80mm); plural units of edging mills (E1, E2), which are usually arranged in the roughing mill zone, are placed just before or within the group of finishing mills (F1WF7). As a result, as compared with the conventional method, the surface area of the material to be rolled is greatly reduced before arriving at the finishing mill, hence the amount of heat emission reduces proportionally to the surface area, and the energy saving can be achieved. The edging mill is made an apparatus able to follow the speed change of the finishing mill, and also, a well-known automatic breadth controller can be installed on purpose to carry out the high grade breadth control.
