Abstract

PURPOSE: A catalyst which is suitable for the stereoregular(co-)polymerization of olefins, consisting mainly of a solid reaction product obtained from the reaction of a hydrocarbon-soluble organic Mg compound and a Si-H bond-containing chlorsilane compound and a solid catalyst component obtained from the reaction of a halogen- containing Ti compound and a S-containing heterocyclic carboxylic acid ester.

CONSTITUTION: An organic Mg compound, e.g., (t-C₄H₉)₂Mg, etc., of the formula M_αMg_βR¹ _p R² _q (where M is aluminium, zinc, boron, or bellyrium atom, R¹ and R² are the same or different 1 to 20 carbon hydrocarbon groups, α ≥ 0, β > 0, p and q > 0, m is the valency of M, and p + q = mα + 2β) or a compound obtained from the organic Mg compound and an electron donor is reacted with a Si- H bondcontaining chlorsilane, e.g., HSiCL₃, etc., at more than 40°C in an inert reaction medium, e.g., hexane, etc., and then the solid product thus obtained is reacted with a halogen-containing Ti compound, e.g., TiCl₄, etc., and a S-containing heterocyclic carboxylic acid ester, e.g., thiophene-2-carboxylic acid methyl, etc., at more than 80°C in an inert medium, e.g., hexane, etc. Then, the solid catalyst thus obtained is mixed with an organometallic compound, e.g., Al(C₂H₅)₃, etc., and a S- or O-containing heterocyclic carboxylic acid ester, e.g., those as mentioned above, to obtain a catalyst for the manufacture of polyolefins.
