Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide high quality, high toughness electric seam welding zone to the welding material, the material edges are provided with nearly regularly spaced apart grooves of a specified dimension and continuous welding is performed in mirrored, asymmetrical butt welding.
CONSTITUTION: One or both edge faces to be welded are provided with grooves spaced a distance either W1 from groove to groove or W11 from a projected corner to the corresponding corner. Either of W1 and W11 is specified to a dimension longer than 1/5 of the thickness of the strip, as otherwise current effeciency is reduced. Further, the distance is specified to be shorter than the distance from the electric feeder to the squeeze roll center to avoid holed welding which otherwise might occur to the electric seam welded zone. Other specifications include the hight or depth greater than 0.2 mm and less than the strip thickness, and the length less than the strip thickness. One or both of so grooved edges is butted in mirrored, asymmetrical manner to be continuously welded.
