Abstract
PURPOSE:To reduce the scatter of the rolling length, and to control the rolling length to constant, by actually measuring the length and outer diameter of the steel pipe for every mandrel bar, by finding the correction factor for the rolling length from the actually measured value and the aim value, and by changing the roll gap correspondingly to this correction factor. CONSTITUTION:The outer diameter dn and the rolling length ln of each rolled pipe P1...Pn are automatically measured by the outer diameter measuring device 3 and the rolling length measuring device 4, and are successively inputted to the central processing unit (cpu) 5 and are memorized there, under the condition that mandrel bars M1...Mn are extracted to the exit side of the mandrel mill 1. The cpu 5 operates the correction factor from the actually measured outer diameter d1, the rolling length ln, the aim outer diameter D and the aim rolling length L. A correction is given to the roll gap (g) of each mandrel bar M1...Mn according to the correction factor. The corrected foll gap Gn is memorized against the mandrel mill 1 for the second and following passes of each mandrel bar M1...Mn; and the pipe of constant length is manufactured depending on the corrected roll gap Gn.
