Abstract

PURPOSE:To permit of precision forging of an identical-speed universal joint, by retaining balls in arc-shaped recesses of an inner and an outer member and in an opening of a retainer and restricting the inner member, the outer member and the retainer by their spherical faces and removing both the inner member and the retainer or both the outer member and the retainer in one direction. CONSTITUTION:The outside surface of the inner member 1 consists of a spherical face 1' and a conical face 1'' and a half of the vertical angle of the conical face is made larger than a half of the angle between a driving shaft and a driven shaft. Several recesses 2 are provided on the outside surface of the inner member 1. The inside surface of the outer member 3 consists of a spherical face 3' and a conical face 3'' and a half of the vertical angle of the conical face is made larger than a half of the angle between the driving shaft and the driven shaft. The same number of recesses 4 as the recesses 2 are provided on the inside surface of the outer member 3. The balls 6 are placed at the intersections of the center lines of the recesses 2, 4 and retained in the opening of the retainer 5 on an identical plane. Thus, precision forging can be utilized to manufacture the outer member and the retainer at low cost.
