Abstract
PURPOSE: To make the tube usable for applications such as optical cords by braiding the specific reinforcing members arrayed linear and weft composed of inorganic fibers such as glass or the like to a tubular braiding and applying plastic vovering thereon.
CONSTITUTION: At the time when 24 strings of inorganic alkaline glass fiber bundles 1 are going to be braided with a braiding machine, 6 strings of the fiber bundles composed of material smaller in elongation by tension than glass are woven as reinforcing members 2 between the fiber bundles 1 so as to be disposed evenly in the circumferential direction and linearly in the length direction, whereby the tubular braiding of, e.g. inside diameter 1.0 mm and outside diameter 2.0 mm is formed. Next, the surface is covered with heat-resisting polyvinyl chloride 3, whereby the reinforcing tube of inside diameter 1.0 mm and outside diameter 3.0 mm for optical fibers is obtained. Thereby, the optical fiber is protected from tensile stress and the stress in its diameteral direction and since the slippery characteristic of the inside surface of the hollow bore is high, the insertion of the optical fiber is easy.
