Abstract

PURPOSE: To control sintering operation exactly, by direct detection of conditions at the cross section of raw material while being sintered by means of a tomograph arranged at a prescribed position in a sintering machine, and by controlling the sintering operation according to the results of the detection.
CONSTITUTION: A tomograph 7 is installed at a prescribed position in a sintering machine 4 (at downstream side of an ignition furnace 5 where both wet and dry raw materials are present, pref., in the same quantities). The signals given by the tomograph 7 are fed to a control unit 8, whereby they are compared with the set values to obtain control signals, and each control signal is fed respectively to a mixer 2, the ignition furnace 5, or pallet-driving mechanism 9. These control signals are sent separately or in combination. The control unit 8 calculates the ratio of the dry material to the wet material from the tomogram signals in order to control the ratio at an optimum. The above-described tomograph is set in such a way that its radiant-ray-oscillating element 71 and radiant-ray-receiving element 72 are arranged facing to each other on a circular orbit 73 of a prescribed radius with the point 0 as the center, the point 0 being located as near as possible to the center of the raw material placed on the pallet 41.
