Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce the occurrence of a code error by dividing one-word information composed of several bits into several blocks and by multilevel-coding them corresponding to the weight of the bit information of each block. CONSTITUTION:One word, composed of 1st to 6th bits, is sectioned by bit change- over circuit 1 into one, one, two and two bits from the highest bit and then made into blocks. Then, the 1st and 2nd bits are binary-coded by converter circuit 2 using levels ''0'' an ''3'' among quad levels expressed by ''0'' to ''3''. Since bits follwoing the 3rd bit are sectioned by two, ''11'' and ''10'' are converted by converter circuit 3 into four-state levels between ''0'' to ''3'', ''3'' and ''2'' respectivly. Therefore, the 1st bit, 2nd bit, 3rd and 4th bits, and 5th and 6th bits of the 1st word are converted into levels ''3'', ''0'', ''3''s, and ''1''s respectively before composition.
