Abstract

PURPOSE: To compensate a reduction in recovering waste heat quantity in low load operation and to safely heat converter catalyst in a short time in preheating by supplying part of hot dry air indirectly heated with auxiliary fuel combustion gas to heat the catalyst in preheating and to the catalyst in low load operation.
CONSTITUTION: In low load operation of a sulfuric acid manufacturing apparatus, air introduced from blower 1 is turned to hot combustion gas 2A by combustion of auxiliary fuel 4 in hot air generator 3, and gas 2A is fed to evaporator 6 and economizer 7 through heat exchanger 5 to heat boiler water 16 to a predetermined temp. and exhausted. Part 11a of dry air 11 reaching sulfur combustion furnace 10 through drying tower 8 and main blower 9 is indirectly heated in exchanger 5 to a temp. necessary for catalytic reaction of SO2 to SO3 and supplied to a pipe for feeding reaction gas to converter 13 of a catalyst bed to compensate a reduction of recovering waste heat quantity of outlet gas 14 as well as to raise the O2 concn. of the reaction gas. In preheating, part 11a of air 11 is used to rapidly raise the catalyst bed temp. of converter 13.
