NEW MATERIAL:2,6,10,14-Tetramethyl-1-hexadecanol of the formula (a neutral oily substance having a molecular weight of 298.55 and soluble to ethyl ether, acetone, ethyl acetate, etc.). USE:Raw material for the synthesis of vitamin E and vitamin K homologs; a surface active agent. PROCESS:Novel fungi belonging to Nocardia genus (BPM.1613) are cultured in a medium containing phytane (2,6,10,14-tetramethylhexadecane) as main carbon source, at 20-40 deg.C and pH7-10 for 3-5 days under aerobic conditions; and the title compound is separated from the medium.
