Abstract

PURPOSE:To uniformly form an Al2O3 film with superior resistance to oxidation and hot corrosion on an Al-contg. austenitic heat resistant steel by throughly removing an inner oxide layer of the steel by surface grinding, etc. CONSTITUTION:An austenitic heat resistant steel contg. Al; 4.5-10%, C<0.4%, Si<2.0%, Mn<10%, Ni; 12-50% and Cr; 5-30% is worked to a plate by blooming, hot rolling, etc. At this time, since diffusion of Al from the interior of the steel is insufficient against penetration of oxygen from the surface, repair of an Al2O3 film due to selective oxidation of Al is not carried out on the steel surface and Al is oxidized in the matrix of the steel surface layer part, forming an inner oxide layer. This oxide layer is thoroughly removed by surface grinding with a belt sander. Next the plate is cold rolled to a desired thickness and used as a heat resistant plate for an annealing furnace, etc. Uniform Al2O3 is formed in a hot oxidizing atmosphere to prevent oxidation and corrosion thereafter.
