Abstract
PURPOSE: To make an aerobic fixed bed of high foul water disposal capacity, by coating a bonding agent on a porous piece and immersing the porous piece in an aqueous solution containing an oxidizing catalyst and then in an activated sludge vessel to aerate the porous piece in the solution and in the activated sludge vessel.
CONSTITUTION: An aqueous solution produced by dissolving a paste material such as carboxymethyl cellulose is coated by spraying or dipping on the porous piece such as a fibrous mat produced by curling synthetic fibers as springs and then coupling them to one another. The porous piece coated with the aqueous solution is immersed in another aqueous sloution containing about 200 ppm of a powdery oxidizing catalyst such as manganese dioxide while the porous piece is aerated by compressed air. Thus, an appropriate quantity of the catalyst adheres to the porous piece. Thereafter, the porous piece is immersed in the activated sludge vessel containing about 200 ppm of activated sludge while the porous piece is aerated for about a half day to a day. AS a result, the activated sludge is coated on the oxidizing catalyst on the porous piece.
