Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a durable vibration damping film free from internal strains, by forming a first and a second films having specific properties on a metal substrate.
CONSTITUTION: A metal substrate is coated with a coating material comprising a polypropylene glycol, an oligomer, such as trifunctional polyol, having two or more hydroxyl or epoxy groups reactive with isocyanate groups, a polyisocyanate, a plasticizer which is liquid at room temperature, such as xylene resin, and a thermoplastic resin, e.g. polyvinyl acetate, to form a first film having a glass transition point of -50W10°C, a modulus of 106W1010 dynes/cm2 at -20W150°C, and a loss factor ≥0.4. The film is then coated with a coating material comprising an unsaturated resin, such as unsaturated polyester resin, which is cured at room temperature by radical polymerization, mica flakes, and an extender pigment to form a second film having a modulus ≥ 5×1010 dynes/cm2 at -50W150°C.
