Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare the title compound useful as a remedy for the after effect of cerebral thrombosis, easily, in high yield, by converting 3,7-dimethylxanthine which is slightly soluble in organic solvents to a specific soluble salt and reacting the salt with 5-oxohexyl halide.
CONSTITUTION: Tetraalkylammonium salt of 3,7-dimethylxanthine (e.g. tetramethylammonium salt, etc.) is made to react with equi-molar amount of 5-oxohexyl halide in an anhydrous polar organic solvent such as DMF, DMSO, etc., at 80W 180°C, pref. at the boiling point of the solvent, to obtain the title compound.
EFFECT: As the tetraalkylammonium ion is an excellent hlaogen acceptor, the reaction proceeds easily and in high yield. The use of organic solvent also improves the yield.
