Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:4-(S)-[5-Methoxycarbonyl-1-(S)-hydroxypentyl]-5-(R)-hydroxymethyl-imidazolidinone of formula I (when R1 is CH2C6H5, R2 is the group of formula II, or when R1 is OH, R2 is the group of formula III.
EXAMPLE: Benzyl 2,3-diamino-2,3-N,N'-carbonyl-2,3,5,6-tetradeoxy-5,6-didehydro- 6-C-methoxycarbonylethylene-β-D-ribohexofuranoisde.
USE: Starting materials for synthesizing a variety of organic compounds, especially a kind of vitamin, natural type (+)-biotin.
PREPARATION: A saturated hemiacetal of formula IV is treated with a reducing agent of metal hydride as sodium borohydride in a solvent as methanol to form the objective compound of formula I. The compound of formula IV is also novel.
