Abstract

PURPOSE:To form rapidly the coloration of high quality brownish tint on the surface of Al material by the procedure in which Al material is dipped in a solution containing specific amounts of permanganic acid ion, phosphoric acid, and condensed phosphoric acid ion to treat it at specific pH and temperature. CONSTITUTION:Al material or An Al alloy material is dipped in a solution containing more than 1 g/1 of permanganic acid ion, e.g., potassium permanganate, etc., and 5 g/1 of phosphoric acid and condensed phosphoric acid ion, e.g., disodium phosphate, sodium phrophosphate, etc., and having pH of 8 to 13. Then, it is treated at 60 deg.C to boiling point for 10 sec. to several min. By regulating the concentration and temperature of the treating solution and the treating time, the coloration of yellowish to blac browish tints can be rapidly attained. In addition, there is no trouble with waste water treatment because the treating solution is harmless. Thus, this method is suitable for the continuous coloration of Al transmission wire, etc.
