Abstract
PURPOSE:To connect optical fibers readily, accurately and rapidly by inserting the optical fibers into the holes, etc. of a holder which does not absorb laser light and fusion welding the bonding part with laser light. CONSTITUTION:When fibers 6, 7 are inserted into the holes 11, 11' which are provided to a holder 10 such as of KCl, NaCl or other which does not absorbe CO2 gas laser beam energies and which are slightly larger than the outside diameter of the optical fibers 6, 7 to be connected and the CO2 laser beam focused by a lens 5 is radiated, then the bond part of the fibers 6, 7 is fused and welded by the laser energies causing no absorption loss. Hence, the connection of the optical fibers may be readily, accurately and rapidly accomplished. The similar results may also be provided even by using the similar holder provided with the V-groove conforming to the outside diameter of the optical fibers.
