Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare diacetoxybutene economically, by reacting butadiene, acetic acid and O2 in an inert gas in the presence of a noble metal catalyst, while recycling the unreacted gas to the reaction system.
CONSTITUTION: Butadiene, O2, inert gas, and acetic acid are introduced into a reaction tube I packed with a noble metal catalyst, e.g. Pd, Rh, etc., through the inlet tubes 1, 2, 3, and 8, respectively. Produced diacetoxybutene gas containing the unreacted gas is cooled in a cooler II, introduced into a liquid/gas separator III to separate the diacetoxybutene from the unreacted gas. The unreacted gas is recycled to the reaction tube I through a pipe 5, a pump IV and a pipe 6. When the reaction reached a stationary state, a part of gas is extracted through a pipe 7 and introduced into a butadiene absorber V.
