Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent flawa and minute defects from being made on the surface of a moving linear material, by automatically displacing a linear material feeder so that the center of the moving linear material always coincides with that of an outlet port of a physicochemical treating unit. CONSTITUTION:The tip of a preformed rod 1 is heated and molten by a heating furnace 3 so that optical fibers 2 are pulled out. The optical fibers are conducted through a resin coating bath container 5 and the center of the outlet port 6. The position of the fibers 2 is detected at a point P between the preformed rod 1 and the bath container 5. An electric motor is driven depending on the result of the detection to displace the preformed rod foward, backward, rightward or leftward. Thereby, the center of the fibers 2 is kept coincident with that of the outlet port 6.
