Abstract

PURPOSE:In hydrocarbon-containing gas contact oxidation using a number of catalyst layer in the reactor, the gas flow is controlled and a heat exchanger is provided in the reactor to properly cool the gas, restricting temperature increase caused by oxidation decomposition, thereby eliminating bad affection to catalyst. CONSTITUTION:In the reactor 5, a heat exchanger 2 is installed between the catalyst filled layers 4A and 4B. A hydrocarbon-containing gas 1 is introduced into the heat exchanger 2 through the blower 1A, to exchange heat with high temperature reacting gas in the reactor, whereby the reacting gas is somewhat cooled. Then, the gas 1 is heated by the preheater 3 and introduced into the reactor 5. No-heat exchanged gas through the by-pass line 11 is added to the gas feed line 10 just before the reactor 5. This operation is regulated by the automatic valve 8 to control the feeding gas temperature. The valve 8 is automatically controlled by the temperature sensor 7 which detects the reactor temperature.
