Abstract

PURPOSE: To shorten the delay in starting discharge without radio active isotope being sealed in by addition of high dielectric substance at least to apart of the inner wall of the lightning arresting tube.
CONSTITUTION: Discharge electrodes 1 and 1 as opposed to each other are tightly retained with a cylindrical airtight enclosure 2 and a discharge gap is formed therebetween. An high dielectric substance 5 such as BaO and BatiO3 is added to a part of the airtight enclosure 2. When a voltage below DC discharge starting level is applied to the discharge electrodes 1 and 1, the existence of the high dielectric substance 5 allows a strong electric field to develop, causing a discharge in the discharge gap.
