Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare the title prepreg haivng high affinity between the carbon fibers and the matrix resin, high interlaminar shear strength, short curing time, and good handleability, by the use of an unsaturated polyester having specific composition as a matrix.
CONSTITUTION: An unsaturated polyester composition composed of (A) an unsaturated polyester prepolymer composed of 20W60 mole parts of isophthalic acid, and 100 mole parts of propylene glycol, (B) 10W50 wt% of diallyl phthalate or diacetone acrylamide, and (C) a curing catalyst, is spread to the surface of a release paper to foam a film. Carbon fibers are placed on the film, and impregnated by pressing at 40W150°C to obtain the objective prepreg containing an unsaturated polyester as matrix.
